ECI probes DM's alleged rule violations in Bageshwar bypoll

BAGESHWAR: Allegations of rule violations against DM Anuradha Pal have emerged in the Bageshwar byelection. The Election Commission of India has taken note of the complaint and directed the Kumaon commissioner to investigate the matter.
Indresh Maikhuri, state secretary of CPI (M), said that he had sent a letter on August 29, 2023, to the state's chief electoral officer on behalf of three Left parties - CPI, CPI (M), CPI (ML) - informing them of their intention to hold a press conference on September 1, in Bageshwar.Uttarakhand's assistant electoral officer, Mastu Das, instructed the DM and district election officer on August 30 to take action in accordance with the rules regarding permission for the press conference. Maikhuri claimed that the DM ignored the letter.
